Isokon, Suffolk

Refurbishment

The Isokon house in Suffolk was designed by architects Jenny and Colin Jones in the early 1960’s for Jack and Molly Pritchard. The Pritchards had set up the Isokon company in London initially commissioning the design and manufacture of plywood furniture and later going on to build the Lawn Road Flats in Hampstead. With Molly, Jack commissioned his daughter Jenny to design a timber framed house on the Suffolk coast where the couple could enjoy the delights of life including swimming, birdwatching and entertaining.

We were able to offer guidance in the sensitive renovation of what is already an excellently designed building. We made minimal alterations to improve utility and living spaces and upgrade some of the fabric of the building including the windows. Our aim with this project was to tread lightly, understanding our success as designers was in what is not seen.
